Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to schedule a visit?

It can take up to 3–4 weeks to find a time and date that works with everyone’s schedules, so we recommend making the request as far in advance as possible. Providing a few times and dates can help the planning process move along more efficiently.

What do I need to provide for the speaker?

HFC instructors will typically need a projector and computer with PowerPoint and internet capabilities for their presentations.

What does a visit entail?

A typical visit will have the presenter coming for the duration of the class period. They will likely have handouts and make a presentation that covers their personal backgrounds, their field, education required, career opportunities and time for questions and answers. Our instructors have also done assembly-style visits, career days and have hosted groups on campus.

Can I request more than one speaker?

Yes. You can request more than one speaker to come during the same time period, but note this usually requires additional schedule coordination. You can also request more than one to come at different dates and times.

Can I request a visit from a program not listed as participating?

Yes. We will do our best to accommodate your request if possible.

I am an HFC instructor. How can I get involved?

Please contact Kristine Rouleau at krouleau@hfcc.edu or 313-845-6316 to learn more about how to get involved.
