College Bound - The Hawk Advantage
Join us for this short, free summer 2024 program to prepare you for college next fall!
Henry Ford College invites graduating high school seniors and adult students to a 3-week, no-cost 2024 summer academic program called College Bound -- The Hawk Advantage.
This program is for anyone who has not yet attended college and wants to attend college. Students who participated in dual enrollment are eligible to participate if they have not completed college level math or English. All you need is a high school diploma or GED by this summer. There is no age limit. The program will help get you ready for college in the fall, but you are not required to enroll in college.
$400 Bonus: Participants who complete the summer program and then take classes at Henry Ford College in Fall 2024 may be eligible to receive a $400 account credit! Participants are to enroll in college level math and/or English.
Program highlights: English, Math, and so much more!
Academics: This free program will help you with English and math, which you will work on in small groups Monday through Thursday.
The Hawk Advantage also includes:
- Transportation support
- Food (breakfast and lunch, Monday through Thursday)
- A Chromebook
- Instruction from professional teachers
- Individual mentoring / tutoring
- Other full-service support
- Small groups for personal attention
- No grades, no credits
- Tours of the HFC campus if you are interested
- Special T-shirt for program participants only!
Is this program completely free?
Yes! The program is funded by the State of Michigan, so there is no cost to you. All of the services listed above are free.
Is this program for me? Who can participate in The Hawk Advantage?
This free program is available to anyone in Southeast Michigan who is interested in attending College in the fall. You are not required to enroll. We think you will want to become a Hawk -- see for yourself!
This Henry Ford College program welcomes:
- 2024 graduating high school seniors (now eligible for the free Michigan Achievement College Scholarship)
- Anyone, of any age, who has a high school diploma or GED and has not yet attended college
- Students 21 years old or older who have not yet attended college (now eligible for the Michigan Reconnect program, which pays your in-district college tuition)
Where will the program be held?
You will have two options to participate in The Hawk Advantage:
On-campus in Dearborn: Most students in The Hawk Advantage program will meet on the main HFC campus. You will meet with teachers, academic coaches, and support teams. Remember, we will provide free bus passes or gas cards to support transportation needs.
Online (limited availability): Some students will study through our Live without the Drive fully-online program, and they will receive support services online.

- Monday - Thursday: Breakfast from 8:00 a.m. - 8:45 a.m.
- Monday - Thursday: College Workshops from 8:45 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.
- Monday - Thursday: Math twice a week, and English twice a week from 9:45 a.m. - 11:15 a.m.
- Monday – Thursday: Lunch from 11:15 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
- Monday - Thursday: Tutoring from 12:00 p.m. - 12:45 p.m.
Virtual
- Monday - Thursday: College Workshops/Coaching Sessions from 4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
- Monday - Thursday: Math twice a week, and English twice a week from 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
- Monday - Thursday: Tutoring from 7:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
