Studio Art fine arts degree

The Studio Art program at Henry Ford College might be a perfect match for you. We are here to help you push your creativity and artistic skills to the next level to help you achieve your goals.
Why should I choose this program?
The Studio Art program is a comprehensive art experience that includes classes in:
- design,
- drawing,
- color,
- digital media,
- painting,
- ceramics,
- photography, and
- art history
You will not only refine your skills but learn to use your talent and creativity to venture beyond what you thought was possible. This experience culminates in our Graduating Students’ Exhibition in the Henry Ford College Sisson Gallery. Whether or not you go on to complete a four-year degree, the Associate in Fine Arts in Studio Art program will help you move toward your career goals or transfer directly into the third year of a university Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.
What skills will I learn and improve?
As you successfully complete the Studio Art program at Henry Ford College, you will:
- Learn to create meaningful artwork on a flat surface in a variety of media.
- Learn to create meaningful artwork in three-dimensional space in a variety of media.
- Learn the basics of creating meaningful artwork in digital spaces.
- Learn to talk about and your own creative work and discuss the work of others in a meaningful way.
- Learn about the work of artistic masters and why they are important.
- Display a body of work created while during your time at Henry Ford College.
What are my career opportunities?
You can work in a variety of settings, including:
- Independent artist selling work through one’s website, galleries and/or art fairs.
- Art teacher*
- College art professor*
- Arts administrator*
- Art director*

Program features and benefits
The MacKenzie Fine Arts Center at Henry Ford College, which houses almost all of the Studio Art classes, offers:
- Expansive dual-purpose space for drawing and painting classes
- Expansive dual-purpose space for drawing and design classes
- One of the best equipped ceramics studios in southeast Michigan
- Classrooms for digital and darkroom photography classes
- The Sisson Gallery which traditionally hosts three professional exhibitions every school year in addition to a large Student Exhibition and a Graduating Students’ Exhibition
- Our dedicated art faculty who take teaching very seriously.
Transfer agreements are in place to help you transfer to a four-year university, if that is a goal for you.
