Hawks’ Nest holds “Pack the Pantry for Pride” through April 25

As part of Campus Pride Month at HFC, all departments have an opportunity to stock the Hawks’ Nest during the “Pack the Pantry for Pride” contest, which runs through Friday, April 25.
Small departments can be mighty
Your department can form a team and win a pizza party by donating the most non-perishable food items to the Hawks' Nest. The team that donates the greatest amount of food (by weight per capita) will be declared the winner! To give smaller departments a fair chance, donations will be divided by the number of members on each competing team to determine a winner.
The Hawks’ Nest is a free food and personal items pantry available to any registered HFC student. The Nest is in Room L-138 on the first floor of the Andrew A. Mazzara Administrative Services & Conference Center (ASCC) (Building L on the main campus). It operates on generous donations from our campus and local community.
Donation drop-offs
We encourage all HFC departments to collect and store donations within your department's offices. You can organize weekly collections by contacting SAFE@HFC. Please do not drop off donations to the Hawks’ Nest without scheduling in advance. This is to ensure all donations are tracked correctly and logged with the appropriate team.
Accepted donations
The Hawks’ Nest will accept non-perishable food items. All items must be new, unexpired, and unopened. Food items should be at least two months prior to their published expiration date. Please do not donate expired food items, as they have to be discarded, which creates extra work for our all-volunteer team. Please check the published expiration dates carefully before you donate.
The following non-perishable food items are needed:
- Boxed meals (such as Hamburger Helper, scalloped potatoes)
- Microwavable shelf meals (Compleats, instant noodles, rice meal packets)
- Personal hygiene products (men’s and women’s deodorant in particular)
- Canned and dry beans (lentils, chickpeas, pinto beans, baked beans)
- Fruit, either canned or cups (mixed fruit, applesauce, mandarin oranges)
- Cereal (all kinds)
- Canned tomato products (diced tomatoes, tomato sauce)
- Pasta sauces (meat and vegetarian options)
- Breakfast bars (fruit and grain, chewy bars, granola bars)
- Canned meats (tuna, chicken, spam, Vienna sausages)
- Canned soups and pasta (SpaghettiOs, ravioli, Campbell’s soups, Chunky soups, chili, vegetable soups)
- Rice and grains (dry bags or quick prep boxes, microwave packets)
- Snack items (cracker sandwiches, goldfish crackers, raisins)
- Peanut butter and jelly (all flavors)
- Oatmeal
- Canned vegetables (mixed veggies, corn, peas, mushrooms, carrots, potatoes)
- Dry pasta noodles
- Meal prep items (broths, condiments, muffin mixes, seasonings)
- You may also donate personal-size hygiene items that are non-perishable.
NOTE: The Hawks’ Nest does not need green beans at this time.
Pro tip: It's a good idea to read whether the items you donate require a significant amount of added food items that are perishable. For example, if a boxed meal requires milk, butter, eggs, cream, cheese, or similar, it can be more difficult for Hawks Nest patrons to make a complete meal. This is not a deal-breaker, but please be aware that not all boxed meals are preparable as-is.
Monetary donations are always welcome. Donate here through the HFC Foundation.

This event is open to all departments. The Hawks Nest is open to all students who are registered for at least 1 credit hour. No proof of financial need is required to patronize the Hawks Nest.
