Common App workshops for students applying to more than one university

HFC students, if you’re planning to apply for transfer to more than one university, the Common Application – more commonly called Common App – is a great resource that allows you to apply to multiple educational institutions with just one application.
HFC Counselor Wendie Lee-Jenkins will conduct the Common App workshops, using online tools provided by the Khan Academy to demonstrate the system. These workshops will be held in the Counseling Division (Room A-121) in the Learning Success Center (Building A on the main campus):
- Wednesday, April 9, from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m.
- Wednesday, April 16, from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m.
“Students will learn the benefits of the Common Application, particularly how to streamline the application process if they are applying to more than one college or university. They will gain knowledge of this one-stop resource, which gives them several advantages,” said Lee-Jenkins. “Students will have the option to set up an account with Common App during the session.”
What is Common App?
Established in 1975, Common App is an undergraduate college admission application that applicants may use to apply to more than 1,000 educational institutions throughout the United States, Canada, Japan, China, and many other European countries. Its mission is to promote access, equity, and integrity in the college admission process, which includes subjective factors from essays and recommendations, alongside more objective criteria such as GPA and class rank.
Common App benefits also include:
- A streamlined process that reduces repetitive work
- Virtual college tours
- Scholarship opportunities at various universities
- How to connect with the admissions offices at various universities
- Making connections with key representatives at various universities
“Students will receive continuing support via individual sessions with me during the semester,” said Lee-Jenkins.
