HFC Counselor Norm Hurns will host a career exploration workshop: “Discover your path. Design your future.”

This workshop will be held Thursday, April 17, in two sessions:

  • Noon to 1:00 p.m.: The first session will be in Room A-121 of the Learning Success Center (Building A on the main campus).
  • 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.: The second session will be virtual via Zoom.

The Workshop will be divided into three parts:

  • Part 1: Focus2 career and educational exploration tTool
  • Part 2: Using the occupational outlook handbook
  • Part 3: Academic advising or additional career exploration with a counselor

“The career exploration workshop is designed to help students take intentional steps toward discovering and planning their career paths,” said Hurns.

Part 1: Focus2 career and educational exploration tool

Students: Please complete the Focus 2 questionnaire linked above before you attend the Career Exploration Workshop.

  • Complete the work interest, values, and personality assessments.
  • Combine results.
  • Review majors for occupations.
  • Identify your top 3 career occupations to use during the workshop.

Part 2: Using the occupational outlook handbook

During the workshop, students will use the occupational outlook handbook to research key information about each career option, including:

  • Job duties
  • Working conditions
  • Education requirements
  • Salary expectations
  • Job outlook
  • Related occupations

Part 3: Academic advising or additional career exploration with a counselor

Students are encouraged to schedule a one-on-one meeting with an academic advisor or career counselor.

Part 2 and Part 3 will be discussed in further detail during the workshop.

The career exploration workshop is free and open to all students. No registration is required. Hurns recommends students you bring your laptop if you can. For questions or more information, contact Hurns at nchurns@hfcc.edu.
