Join the HFC counselors as they work with you to improve your mental wellness throughout the Fall 2024 semester with Mindfulness Mondays, Tools for Success Tuesdays, and Wellness Wednesdays.

Each Wellness Wednesdays workshop will meet in Room A-121 of the Learning Success Center (Building A on the main campus). HFC Counselors Norman Hurns and Dr. Gwendolyn Pringle will lead the Wellness Wednesdays workshops, which will be held from noon to 1:00 p.m.:

  • Wednesday, October 2 – Effective Time Management for College and Beyond: Time management is essential for balancing academics, work, and your personal life. It helps you stay organized and reduce stress. By mastering time management, you can prevent burnout and maintain a sense of control, contributing to your overall wellness. This workshop will provide strategies to prioritize tasks, manage deadlines, and balance academic demands and your personal wellbeing. Pringle will teach this workshop.
  • Wednesday, October 9 – Goal Setting and Values Clarification for Life and Work: Setting clear goals aligned with your personal values helps guide decision-making and motivation for both short-term and long-term success. This workshop emphasizes the connection between goal setting and mental wellness, as you understand your values and purpose, which can lead you to experience greater satisfaction and reduced anxiety. You will learn how to set meaningful goals and ensure your daily actions align with your core values, fostering a sense of fulfillment and wellbeing. Pringle will teach this workshop.
  • Wednesday, October 16 – Stress Management and Coping Strategies: Stress is inevitable, but how you manage stress determines its impact on your wellness. This workshop will cover healthy coping strategies such as mindfulness, exercise, and time spent in nature, which can reduce stress and promote emotional balance. You will explore the physical and mental effects of stress and practice techniques to manage stress before it becomes overwhelming. Hurns will teach this workshop.
  • Wednesday, October 23 – U Matter Discussion: In a fast-paced world, it is easy to overlook your own self-worth and personal importance. This discussion will focus on reminding you that self-care is essential to your wellbeing. Acknowledging personal values and practicing self-compassion are integral to your mental and emotional wellness. The workshop will encourage you to explore ways to prioritize your needs and reinforce the importance of being kind to yourself. Pringle will teach this workshop.
  • Wednesday, October 30 – Healthy Habits for a Balanced Life: Wellness is about mental and physical health. This workshop will discuss the importance of sleep, nutrition, and physical activity for maintaining your overall wellbeing. You will learn how to incorporate small, sustainable habits into your routines to improve your physical and mental wellness, leading to increased energy and focus. Hurns will teach this workshop.
  • Wednesday, November 6 – Building Resilience Through Adversity: Life is filled with challenges, and resilience helps individuals navigate difficult times while maintaining mental wellness. This workshop will explore ways to cultivate resilience, develop a growth mindset, stay optimistic, and seek support when needed. You will gain tools to bounce back from setbacks and maintain a positive outlook on life. Hurns will teach this workshop.
  • Wednesday, November 13 – Mindful Communication and Relationships: Healthy relationships are essential to emotional wellness, but they require effective communication. This workshop will teach mindfulness techniques for improving interpersonal communication, fostering empathy, and reducing conflict. You will learn how to build stronger, more supportive relationships essential to overall wellbeing. Hurns will teach this workshop.
  • Wednesday, November 20 – Digital Detox: Balancing Technology and Life: While technology is essential, too much screen time can lead to burnout, anxiety, and decreased mental wellness. This workshop will explore the benefits of a "digital detox," offering strategies for reducing reliance on technology and setting boundaries. You will leave with tips on using technology mindfully to promote wellbeing, creativity, and presence in your daily life. Hurns will teach this workshop.
