During the week of November 18-22, the Henry Ford College Foundation will kick off its year-end giving campaign.

This year’s theme is “We Are HFC – Where Potential Meets Opportunity,” which has the following goals:

  1. Increase overall annual giving among HFC faculty and staff for student programs.
  2. Appeal to faculty and staff to become monthly sustainers (donors) for student programs.

“We encourage HFC faculty and staff to support any HFC program that supports their philanthropic interests. I wanted to reach out internally to our dedicated faculty and staff this year,” said HFC Assistant Director of Advancement Dr. Shai James-Boyd. "Our students possess unlimited potential, and may need financial assistance to access educational opportunities that will change their future trajectory. HFC is the cornerstone that provides students with academic training and personal development to secure economic mobility and advancement. This campaign is the perfect way for HFC to continue providing ongoing support to students.”

Scholarships and Grants are not the whole story

Supporting HFC programs other than scholarships and grants is important. When teammates support these programs, students have opportunities to utilize them without any restrictions (i.e., a scholarships usually have requirements that may restrict some students from accessing them).

“For instance, if you donate $10 on a monthly basis to the College, that $10 at the end of the year accumulates to $120, which makes an impact on services such as the Student Emergency Aid Fund, the Hawks’ Nest Food Pantry, or Hawks Athletics. It really goes a long way. That $120 added to another team member’s $120 makes an even bigger difference. Giving to support student needs demonstrates how committed the faculty and staff are to the work we do with HFC students,” said James-Boyd.

"I donate because I believe in empowering students to succeed"

The Foundation will post daily campus-wide videos highlighting the contributions of HFC faculty and staff. HFC Athletic Director Rochelle Taylor and HFC Chairperson for the Department of Media Communication Arts Susan McGraw donate to the College on a regular basis.

“I donate because I believe in empowering students to succeed. By removing financial barriers, we give them the opportunity to focus on their education, unlock their potential, and create a brighter future for them and for our community,” said Taylor.

All monetary donations to the College are tax deductible.

“‘We are HFC’ underscores the importance of an exceptional institution that has enriched the lives of countless students, and they deserve our help. I hope many of my colleagues will feel inspired to support our students on this important journey,” said HFC Vice President of Institutional Advancement A. Reginald Best, Jr.

“Everyone who gives will receive a nice acknowledgement that will be announced during the daily videos,” said James-Boyd. “‘We Are HFC.’ We are the community college in the area that other community colleges look up to because we are dedicated to student success.”
