HFC strives to bring quality education and enrichment opportunities to our community. Join us this summer for the Hawk Career Exploration Academy.

The Hawk Career Exploration Academy offers fun and hands-on opportunities for junior high and senior high school students to explore career possibilities in STEM, the trades, and the arts. The sessions are challenging, engaging, and exciting.

Hawk Career Exploration Academy sessions available

All Hawk Career Exploration Academy sessions run each week, Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on HFC’s main campus. Lunch is provided each day. Take advantage of these exciting enrichment activities. Age ranges are not absolute, but are recommended:

  • $25 only: June 24-27: For incoming 6th-8th graders, 5101: Culinary Explorer is an opportunity for students eager to explore the world of cooking and baking. With a well-balanced schedule combining hands-on cooking sessions and essential kitchen fundamentals, you will gain a solid understanding of the culinary world.

  • June 24-27: For incoming 6th-8th graders, the Mobile App Inventor session introduces you to the amazing world of mobile app development using MIT’s App Inventor online software. You will craft your very own mobile applications from scratch!

  • $25 only: June 24-27: For incoming 9th-12th graders, the Trade Explorer: Youths and Shop session gives you the opportunity for hands-on learning and skill development in manufacturing. Learning about machining and metalworking not only provides practical skills, but it also fosters creativity through the creation of small projects.

  • $25 only: June 24-27 or July 15-18: For incoming 6th-8th graders, Intro to Robots offers an engaging experience where you will learn how to engineer robots powered by solar energy. Through hands-on activities, you will develop essential skills such as manual dexterity, problem-solving, logical thinking, and self-confidence.

  • June 24-27 or July 15-18: For incoming 9th-12th graders, Youth Leading Youth is the Hawk Career Exploration Academy's K-12 Teaching Profession Exploration Session. In this session, you will discover the excitement and impact of hands-on teaching. You will develop a better understanding of student engagement, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills – essential qualities for future educators, camp counselors, and more.

  • July 8-11: For incoming 6th-8th graders, Automated Systems and Robotics Explorer is a dynamic workshop where you will engage in practical projects to learn how automated systems and robotics make a positive impact on the world.

  • July 15-18: For incoming 9th-12th graders, Discover the World of Media as an HFC Film and Media Explorer! is a workshop hosted by HFC Media Communication Arts for students with a passion for TV, film, radio, and other media. We are rolling out the red carpet for you to explore everything from the magic of film and TV to the beats of a live radio station and the craft behind creative storytelling through scripts and podcasts. It’s the ultimate in media content creation!

  • July 15-18: For incoming 9th-12th graders, in the Discovering XCode and Swift App Development session, you will unlock the secrets of crafting apps specifically for iPhones, iPads, and other Apple devices. This weeklong adventure promises to be filled with invaluable learning experiences, thrilling exploration, and hands-on app development action!

  • $25 only: July 15-18: For incoming 9th-12th graders, Bioblitz Explorer gives students the opportunity to explore local habitats and animal biodiversity through activities in a laboratory setting and outdoor adventures around the HFC campus and at the University of Michigan-Dearborn’s Environmental Study Area. The week will end with an exciting trip to the Detroit Zoo!
