Muslim Student Association hosts public “Unity and Community” dinner
The HFC Muslim Student Association will host its 14th annual dinner called “Unity and Community: The Islamic Perspective” on Thursday, April 18, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. (doors open at 5:00 p.m.) in the Forfa Auditorium in the Andrew A. Mazzara Administrative Services & Conference Center (ASCC) (Building L) on the main campus.
“As the faculty advisor of the Muslim Student Association, it is my honor to serve HFC students, bring the community together, and spread love, peace, and justice. I am looking forward to hearing from our two speakers,” said HFC engineering and mathematics instructor Dr. Kamal Shenaq.
Keynote Speaker: Imam Imran Salha
Imam Imran Salha is a hafidh of the Qur’an and community leader who has served as Imam at several institutions, including the Islamic Center of Detroit. A motivational speaker and activist, Salha is of Palestinian origin, born and raised in New Jersey. Growing up, he completed classical texts in various Islamic sciences.
Salha has led the Taraweeh – a prayer performed after the evening prayer, Isha, every night during Ramadan – since he was 16. A first-degree black belt in the martial art of Tae Kwon Do, he is pursuing a master’s degree in civil engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington.
Guest Speaker: Shaykh Maqsood Sher
Shaykh Maqsood Sher is a senior seminary teacher and scholar at the Miftaah Institute in Warren, as well as a mentor in Islamic studies, scriptures, and Holy Book interpretations. With an education in Quranic studies and a bachelor’s degree in Islamic studies and the Arabic language, Sher strives to create engaging lectures, foster meaningful discussions, and maintain a healthy and intellectually challenging space for students to grow.
