HFC has been granted $3 million in Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS), which was sponsored by Senator Gary Peters, to supplement the work for the College's Southeast Michigan Student Success Center (SEMSSC) project.

The $3 million will be used for:

  • Equipment and technology upgrades in renovated buildings.
  • Equipment and technology for the new teaching and student support building (SEMSSC).
  • Furnishing the new flexible classrooms in College buildings.
  • Hiring more advisors in the early stages of the project, which will later be funded by the College.

This is the beginning of the SEMSSC project, which is estimated to cost $85 million over the next three years. This project will entail the design and construction of a 4-story multi-use, multi-purpose facility on the main campus of HFC, which will:

  • Host the SEMSSC.
  • Replace the Reuther Liberal Arts Building (Building K).
  • Relocate student-facing employees from the first floor of the Welcome Center (Building WC).

It will also:

  • Renovate the Learning Success Center (Building A).
  • Renovate the Eshleman Library (Building B).
  • Renovate the Facilities Services Building (Building D).
  • Relocate other College functions, including Campus Safety, the College Store, and the Heating/Cooling operational infrastructure.
