Starting this summer, Thrive Farmers is the main supplier of coffee and tea at HFC’s Skylight Café in the John McDonald Student & Culinary Arts Center (Building M on the main campus).

“We have new coffee machines and new brewers. We’re able to change the coffee much more easily as people’s tastes change over the years. We can adapt to it quicker and easier, and also be more socially responsible,” said Skylight manager Bruce Wall.

About Thrive Farmers

Thrive Farmers was founded in 2009 in Costa Rica. The idea was to connect coffee directly to the consumer. By bringing in farmers to market as partners, Thrive Farmers was able to create more sustainable income and opportunities, which meant the farmers could create more sustainable businesses and futures. Thrive Farmers has worked to impact to the coffee industry by empowering farmers.

“It’s farmer-friendly in the sense that they cut out the middle man, so farmers get more money per pound for the coffee beans. This makes it very sustainable. We thrive – no pun intended – on that. It’s community-based,” said Wall.
