HFC houses Dearborn Adult and Community Education
HFC is now the new home of the Dearborn Public Schools Adult and Community Education program on its main campus.
- Registration is in the Reuther Liberal Arts Building (Building K)
- Administrative offices are in Room 172 of the Technology Building (Building E)
- Several classes will also be held in the Liberal Arts Building
This move will free up classroom space for other programs at the Dearborn district’s Heights Campus (Adult and Community Education’s previous location), which includes the Career & Technical Education and Michael Berry Career Center for high school students.
“Our adult students are better suited to a college campus environment, as it promotes a sense of comfort and belonging among peers. Being situated on a college campus will also be a valuable incentive for them to pursue further education after completing our program. Overall, we are excited about the opportunity to become an integral part of the College community and to provide our students with enhanced opportunities for personal growth and development,” said Ioanna Garrisi, Supervisor of Adult and Community Education.
One of the largest Adult Ed programs in Michigan
Adult Education focuses on helping lifelong learners complete high school or ear a GED, learn English, or prepare for their United States citizenship tests. Some of those classes, including English classes, will still be offered at other sites in the community.
Community Education classes are held all across the Dearborn district, helping adults and children pursue a wide range of interests such as fitness, hobbies, computing, foreign languages, cooking, art, and more.
Adult and Community Education will remain a part of the Dearborn district. HFC and the Dearborn district are sister organizations with separate leadership and budgets, and both are overseen by the same elected Board of Trustees. HFC is the only remaining community college in the state of Michigan to be affiliated with a P-12 school district.
