HFC and Apple Foundation offer free app development course to the public
HFC and the Apple Foundation Program will offer an introductory app development course to the public, including HFC students, employees, and community members ages 18 and older on Mondays and Wednesdays in early 2025.
This 80-hour program is free and will be held in the M-TEC Building on HFC’s East Campus, 3601 Schafer Rd. in Dearborn. The course begins Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2025 and runs through Thursday, May 1, 2025. It meets on Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 8:35 p.m. While you are not required to attend all sessions, doing so will give you the full experience of this valuable free program.
“HFC is leading an inclusive journey with the Apple Foundation Program, designed to make app development accessible to everyone. This collaboration between HFC and Apple has been very successful. We’re thrilled to offer it again and continue to grow our partnership with Apple, offering more learning opportunities to aspiring developers from all backgrounds,” said HFC Program Manager for Workforce Development Cassandra Myers.
This unique program will teach the fundamentals in iOS app development and will introduce you to the growing and in-demand specialty for careers in technology. You will use Mac computers to explore the fundamentals of app creation. This program equips you with essential skills for product development by learning how to build an app, identifying steps that go into developing a prototype based on a selected challenge.
Prototypes can be a simple view of what the app will do. You will enhance your creativity and conceptual thinking skills through challenge-based learning and a collaborative learning environment. This program not only imparts knowledge of Apple-based product app development, but it also equips you with essential skills for product development.
Through Apple’s learning framework, you will be introduced to Swift – Apple’s programming language – and fundamental principles of app design and development. You will leverage Apple technology to enhance your creativity, collaboration, and conceptual thinking skills as you develop app prototypes, along with your presentation and soft skills. Apple devices will be provided. No previous coding experience is required.
Through this collaboration, grant funding may be available to cover the expenses of students who are completing the Apple Foundation Program as part of HFC’s Mobile App Development Certificate of Achievement program. The Certificate program is a 21-credit program.
Materials needed for the course will be supplied. Please contact Myers to register at cmyers17@hfcc.edu.
