Group of people watching a movie in a theater.

The newly-formed HFC Film and Media (FAM) Club will host its first meeting Wednesday, February 14, from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. in Room M-119 of the John McDonald Student & Culinary Arts Center (Building M on the main campus). It will meet on the second Wednesday of each month at 4:30 p.m. for the rest of the Winter 2024 semester.

The FAM Club’s purpose is to talk about movies and media; to learn about video, photography, and audio production techniques; to exchange ideas; to produce media of all kinds; and to have a good time.

The FAM Club, which merged with the Photography Club at the end of 2023, had its new constitution approved by HFC Student Activities in January. HFC telecommunication instructor Dr. Tom Hopkins serves as the faculty advisor.

The FAM Club’s leaders are:

  • President: David Branch
  • Vice President: Anil Kucukoz
  • Treasurer: Vincent Paolini
  • Secretary: Jenna Hill

"It's an honor to be the president and represent all these creative people,” said Branch.

Fans with a sense of family

Members are excited to be producing a short psychological thriller in March and April. The script is being written by HFC students Kalimah Gardner and Alaina Schnell. The final draft will be presented at its meeting on Wednesday, March 13. Members also plan to talk about special effects makeup. Kits will be available for members to work on special effect techniques.

"I’m so excited to have this wonderful opportunity for our students who are passionate about media! We call it the ‘FAM Club’ for a reason. It’s a play off the phrase, ‘fan club,’ because all of us are fans of media and it represents the word ‘family.’ As with most successful collaborations, this club really feels like a family,” said HFC Chair of Communication and Media and WHFR General Manager Susan McGraw.

All students are invited to attend FAM Club meetings. There is no cost to join. For questions or more information about the FAM Club, contact Hopkins at thopkins@hfcc.edu or McGraw at scmcgraw@hfcc.edu.
