Basketball players honored in the postseason, including Player of the Year
In early March, the HFC men’s basketball team lost to Bay College 82-67 in the semifinals of the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Great Lakes District A Tournament.
The Hawks finished the regular season in third place in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association Eastern Conference, with a conference record of 9-5. In the postseason, the following players were honored:
- Chansey Willis, Jr. was named to the NJCAA Great Lakes District A All-Tournament Team and to the MCCAA First Team All-Eastern Conference. He was also named the MCCAA Eastern Conference Player of the Year.
- Damarion Bonds was named MCCAA Second Team All-Eastern Conference.
- Shanien Carter was named MCCAA Third Team All-Eastern Conference and named to the MCCAA Eastern Conference All-Defensive Team.
- Alden Ritt was named MCCAA Third Team All-Eastern Conference.
“Chansey is the third Hawk to be named MCCAA Eastern Conference Player of the Year for the third consecutive year. Last year, it was D’Quarion Cole. Two years ago, it was Mak Manciel,” said Coach Chris Shepard. “I’m proud that our program continues to produce players who are recognized as best in the conference. We look forward to continuing to develop players who excel on and off the court.”
