Sustainable HFC plants trees to celebrate Arbor Day
The Sustainable HFC Committee celebrated Arbor Day on May 4 by planting trees on the northwest corner of the main campus. This event was initially planned for April 28 but had to be rescheduled due to inclement weather.
Members of the Sustainable HFC Committee, Student Council, the Student Environmental Association; and STEM Dean Janice Gilliland planted seven autumn brilliance serviceberry plants, under the guidance of Facilities Services. These plants, which were donated by the Student Council and several private donors, will beautify the landscape with their brilliant white blossoms in the spring, then produce berries that birds consume during the summer.
“This was all for a good cause. It was worth getting dirty for. Everyone had a good time planting,” said HFC Computer Tech Associate Jeremy Tabor, a member of the Sustainable HFC Committee.
Make a donation today
The Sustainable HFC Committee, along with STEM, Facilities, and the HFC Foundation, have set up a Tree Fund. This fund establishes a process for the HFC community to donate to the Foundation to have trees planted. It also establishes a process to make the planting happen efficiently, following environmental best practices.
The cost of planting a tree:
- A $300 donation covers the average cost of one tree planting with a donor plaque.
- A $250 donation covers the average cost of one tree planting.
- A donation of less than $250 supports either a milestone tree planting when $250 is accumulated or materials necessary to offset excess costs of other tree plantings.
To donate:
- If you wish to donate $300 or more, complete the form for the tree with a plaque
- If you wish to donate $250-$299, complete the form for the tree without a plaque
- If you wish to donate less than $250, Visit the HFC Foundation website
