HFC Chorus and Blue Fusion will perform Dec. 3 at St. Paul Lutheran Church
The HFC Chorus and Blue Fusion – two of the College’s music ensembles – will combine their talents at the Kuumba: Creativity choral concert at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 21919 Beech St. in Dearborn, on Sunday, December 3, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
“Kuumba: Creativity is a choral concert that brings festive voices together under the direction of new members of the HFC Music Department,” said Amy Saari, the new chorus director who is finishing her first semester at the College.
She added: "We're excited to also feature Blue Fusion, the vocal jazz ensemble under the directorship of Jiana Hunter. We can't wait to hear what they have to share."
Kuumba is the sixth principle of Kwanzaa, which means ‘creativity.’ When she researched this principle, Saari learned its definition of creativity differed from the definition of creativity widely understood in Western culture.
"Kuumba means, ‘To do always as much as we can, in the way we can, in order to leave our community more beautiful and beneficial than we inherited it,’” said Saari.
Admission to this choral concert is free and open to the public. For questions or more information, contact Saari at asaari@hfcc.edu.
