Federally required Biannual Notification

The HFC Biannual Right to Know Information and the Drug and Alcohol Prevention Program Notice is distributed to HFC students and HFC employees as required by federal law.

This notice informs students and employees of the resources and policies to prevent the abuse of alcohol and/or distribution of illicit drugs in support of the Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act.

A specific description of our Drug and Alcohol Education and Prevention program is detailed in our Student Consumer Information website. Alcohol Use: Your Rights, Responsibilities, and Support Services

Consistent with state and federal laws, HFC will maintain a workplace and an educational environment free from the unlawful manufacturing, distribution, dispensation, possession, or use of a controlled substance (as defined under the Controlled Substances Act, 21 U.S.C. 812 and the Drug Free Schools and Communities Act, as may be amended from time to time). The unlawful manufacture, distribution, dispensation, possession or use of alcohol and other drugs, including narcotics by employees and students, is prohibited on any property under the control of and governed by the Board of Trustees of HFC or on any site where work or student activity is performed by individuals on behalf of the College.

Any violation of these policies or of local, state or federal laws regarding illicit drugs or alcohol will result in appropriate disciplinary action. In addition to college disciplinary sanctions, students, faculty and staff involved with illegal use, possession, or distribution of controlled substances may face criminal penalties, and the college will cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies as appropriate.

Student Resources

HFC Counseling provides support from full-time and part-time licensed professional counselors who provide individual counseling, workshops, and group sessions to students experiencing personal issues, including those impacted by drug and/or alcohol abuse or addiction. Counselors have specialized education and training in addiction and alcohol and drug education. Contact Counseling at 313-845-9611.

Reach Out – The College Edition is a free mobile application that connections you to on-campus and off-campus resources, links to videos, and local community support agencies. To download this app, please follow these directions:

  1. Go to the app store and search for Reach Out – The College Edition.
  2. Download the app to your mobile device.
