HFC to screen Oscar-winning film “Moonlight” April 25
The 2016 Oscar-winning movie Moonlight will be screened Monday, April 25, from noon to 2:00 p.m. in the Berry Amphitheater on the first floor of the Andrew A. Mazzara Administrative Services & Conference Center (ASCC) on the main campus of HFC.
Based on the unpublished semi-autobiographical play called In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue by Tarell Alvin McCarney (who adapted it into a screenplay with director Barry Jenkins of Dear White People fame), Moonlight is a coming-of-age drama. It chronicles the life of Chiron (Trevante Rhodes, Bird Box) – his childhood, adolescence, and adulthood – as he faces the difficulties regarding his sexuality, including the abuse he endured growing up.
Critically acclaimed, Moonlight was nominated for eight Oscars. Of the eight, it won three, including the Oscar for Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor (Mahershala Ali, Hidden Figures), and Best Adapted Screenplay (McCraney and Jenkins).
This screening is free. This event is one of several HFC is holding from now until the end of the month in celebration of Campus Pride Month.
