BMQFG holds Rites of Passage graduation event April 28
Members of the HFC community are invited to attend the Black Male QUEENS Focus Group Rites of Passage Graduation Ceremony, which take place on Thursday, April 28, at 6:00 p.m. via Zoom.
Not only will BMQFG members who are graduating this year be honored, but so will BMQFG graduates of the previous two years, according to HFC sociology professor and BMQFG faculty advisor Dr. Kalvin DaRonne Harvell. The last two graduation ceremonies were cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Keynote Speaker
Dr. Jeffrey Lee will be the keynote speaker. A Flint native, Lee earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration and his master’s degree in multicultural education both from Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti. He later earned his doctorate in higher education from Immaculata University in East Whiteland Township, PA. A prolific author, Lee has published articles in various newspapers in addition to literary works.
He has been an educator for more than 25 years. He’s taught English at Fitz-Simons High School in North Philadelphia, PA, the only all-Black boys public high school in Philadelphia. Currently, Lee is an ELA teacher at Bala Cynwyd Middle School in the Philadelphia suburbs. Lee has a strong passion for his research fields of retention and equity in education and strives to create change through his scholarship and work.

All BMQFG graduates will also speak. Further, all BMQFG graduates will receive BMQFG Medallions and Kente Stoles to wear at May 7’s HFC Commencement Ceremony.
