Ten HFC students participated in a research fellowship at the University of Michigan Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) Summer Symposium during the summer.

UROP includes the Community College Summer Research Program (CCSFP). The CCSFP is for community college students who are interested in transferring to U-M. For 10 weeks, students work full-time on the U-M campus in Ann Arbor with university advisors. Research projects are pre-selected by staff. This summer, 35 students from 12 community colleges in the state of Michigan participated. Of the 35 students, the 10 from HFC were:

  • Noora Aabed
  • Nusrat Atika
  • Sami Bazzi
  • Monique Cruz
  • Ali Farhoud
  • Zainab Mroue
  • Paige Nalli
  • Kalani Olatunji
  • Wala Sailan
  • Ashley Trent

“We are proud of our students’ accomplishments,” said HFC School of STEM Dean Janice Gilliland.

The program is open to all HFC students who want a scholarly project on their resume, and who might want to transfer to UM. “HFC students will be able to attend a free Summer Research Opportunities Workshop in January 2023, where they can learn about available summer opportunities, hear from representatives from the research labs, learn to tailor their résumé to scientific research, and much more. Watch for more details coming soon,” said Gilliland.
