HFC Votes! Learn how to register, and how to vote

T he HFC Office of Student Activities (OSA) is holding a 2020 Voter Registration Drive.

Due to the pandemic, this year’s Voter Registration Drive will be held virtually through:

The Voter Registration Drive allows students to register to vote online and encourages them to exercise their right to vote on every Election Day. Students must be registered to vote to participate in the upcoming presidential election on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Visit the Michigan Voter Information Center (MVIC) for online voter registration.

At the OSA website, students can also complete the online Voter Pledge Card. Anyone who completes an online Voter Pledge Card will receive a reminder about Election Day.

Upcoming Voter Registration Events

Tuesday, Sept. 22: National Voter Registration Day
Register to vote online on National Voter Registration Day, then let friends and family on social media know that you are now registered and that you will vote. OSA is hosting a virtual photo booth to help students celebrate that they are registered voters! Students will receive a digital copy of their photos to share. #HFCVotes

Thursday, Sept. 24: Absentee ballots become available
Due to the passage of the statewide ballot proposal 18-3, all eligible and registered voters in Michigan may now request an absent voter ballot without providing a reason. On Sept. 24, clerks begin mailing ballots to voters who requested to vote from home.

Monday, Oct. 19: Last day to register to vote online
This is the last day to register to vote online or to register to vote through the mail for the Nov. 3 election.

Tuesday, Oct. 20: Place your ballot in the mail if voting by mail
Starting approximately two weeks from Election Day on Nov. 3, it is recommended students drop off their ballots at their city or township clerk’s office or drop box. Students can find their local clerk’s information, as well as the location of their drop box by visiting MVIC and selecting “Who is my Clerk?”

Oct. 20-Nov. 3: Register and vote in-person at clerk’s office
Starting Tuesday, Oct. 20, voters must register to vote in person at their city or township clerk’s office or satellite office. They must provide additional residency documentation.

Oct, 31-Nov. 1: Clerks’ offices open Saturday and/or Sunday
Clerks’ offices must be open on Saturday, Oct. 31, or Sunday, Nov. 1, for at least eight hours for in-person voter registration and absentee voting.

Tuesday, Nov. 3: Election Day
If you are voting in-person on Election Day, polls are open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. If you are in line before 8:00 p.m., you will be able to vote. To find your polling place, visit MVIC and select “Where’s my polling place?’

Students who have not yet registered to vote can register and vote on Election Day by visiting their local clerk’s office or satellite office. To find your local clerk’s office, visit MVIC and selecting “Who is my Clerk?”
