On-campus office cleaning and sanitation procedures for Summer 2020

July 2020

Now that a number of employees have returned to their office areas on campus, there has been some uncertainty about what to expect in terms of office and common-area cleaning.

HFC Facilities Services has made changes to its cleaning procedures in responding to the coronavirus. We have been following enhanced sanitation procedures across campus since March. These efforts require additional time and diligence by our team, and we appreciate your assistance in keeping our campus as safe and clean as possible. Our top cleaning and sanitation priorities at this time are the classrooms and labs that are being used daily to complete the postponed Winter 2020 classes.

In addition to classroom and lab spaces, other areas of campus are being cleaned as follows:

  • Restrooms are cleaned and sanitized daily.

  • Door knobs and handles are cleaned and sanitized daily.

  • Elevator buttons and interior spaces are cleaned and sanitized daily.

  • Common areas, including lounges and kitchenettes, are cleaned daily, but we recommend using them sparingly, and that you not share common items such as dishes and utensils. Social distancing and face masks are required at all times in shared spaces. Trash in common areas is emptied daily.

  • Private offices and cubicles are not being cleaned by Facilities personnel. This is partly for your safety and ours, so our team will not be in contact with your individual work area or office equipment. To minimize risk associated with shared surfaces, Facilities personnel are currently directed not to enter personal offices assigned to faculty and staff. If you are working on campus, you should plan to sanitize the surfaces, desks and chairs, and equipment in your office or work area as needed. We can provide approved supplies if you need them. If you require additional assistance, you may use SchoolDude to schedule help from Facilities.

  • Office trash will be emptied outside your office or work area. Please place any trash containers outside the door to your office or the entrance to your cubicle. Your trash will be emptied each day, and the container will be replaced outside the door or entrance where it was found.

We appreciate your collaboration and patience as we do our best to keep our community safe and our campuses clean. If you have questions or feedback, please contact Reuben Brukley, rjbrukley@hfcc.edu.
