Household hazardous waste collection at HFC May 11

A free Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day will take place Saturday, May 11, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at HFC, in parking lots 7, 8, and 9, the lots farthest south of the Technology Building (Bldg. E). Only residents of Wayne County may dispose of their hazardous materials at HFC.

Individuals dropping off materials are required to provide proof of county residency.

Materials that will be accepted include:

  • Household paints, stains, dyes
  • Floor care items, floor wax, carpet cleaner
  • Furniture polish, bathroom cleaners, stain removers, solvents
  • Pharmaceutical waste (non-controlled substances only)
  • Nail polish, glue
  • Lawn and garden chemicals, pesticides, fertilizers
  • Antifreeze, motor oil, gasoline
  • Automotive batteries, dry cell batteries
  • Fluorescent bulbs (all types)
  • Fire extinguishers, smoke detectors
  • Mercury thermometers, thermostats, elemental mercury, electronics recycling
  • Computer CPUs, monitors, printers, scanners, keyboards, mice
  • TVs, cell phones, fax machines, copiers

Materials that will NOT be accepted include:

  • Commercial waste
  • Industrial waste
  • Radioactive material
  • Explosives
  • Ammunition
  • 55 gallon drums
  • Household trash
  • Refrigerators
  • Microwaves or other household appliances
  • Tires
  • Yard waste
  • Roofing shingles
  • Concrete
  • Unknown/unlabeled waste materials
