Help bring social awareness to LGBTQ+ history, political rights and campus support services. HFC shows our pride this month with a series of events and features coordinated with the Sexuality and Gender Acceptance Student Club (S.A.G.A), Eshleman Library, the Division of Student Affairs, and other HFC offices.

HFC invites you to join the celebration by attending many of the upcoming events. Links provide additional information about specific events throughout the month.

Campus pride events:

  • Film Screening: Stonewall Uprising (2010)
    Monday, April 1, 2:30 p.m. in the Vogt Room (B-102) of the Eshleman Library (Building B)
    2010 Documentary examines the 1969 Stonewall Riots that many believed were the turning point in bringing LGBTQ human and civil rights to the forefront. Sponsored by the HFC Eshleman Library.

  • Human Library
    Weds., April 3, 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. Eshleman library, 1st Floor
    Check out a "book."
    The Human Library is a unique even focused on human conversations and detailing narratives on the variety of topics such as nonbinary, feminist, atheist, and more.

  • S.A.G.A Meeting (one of two this month)
    Weds., April 3, 3 p.m.- 4:30 p.m. in Building M, Room 119
    The Sexuality and Gender Acceptance Student Club meets to support students in their lives as LGBTQ+ individuals and allies. All are welcome.

  • Teaching Inclusively: supporting LGBTQ+ students in the classroom
    Thurs., April 4, 2 p.m. tentatively in Vogt Room (B-102) of the Eshleman Library (Building B)**
    Workshop highlighting the importance of being inclusive in the classroom. Featuring Faculty Lectureship Award Winner Chelsea (Charlie) Lonsdale. All are welcome.

  • Film Screening: The Miseducation of Cameron Post (2018)
    Monday, April 8, 2:30 p.m. in the Vogt Room (B-102) of the Eshleman Library (Building B)
    In 1993, a teenage girl is forced into a gay conversion therapy center by her conservative guardians. Sponsored by the HFC Eshleman Library.

  • Panel Discussion on LGBTQ+ Resources at HFC
    Weds., April 10, 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. in Welcome Center Community Rooms
    Panel Presentation by campus office wide offering LGBTQ+ resources to students. All are invited; LGBTQ+, allies, and community.

  • Film Screening: Out in the Dark (2012)
    Monday, April 15, 2:30 p.m. in the Vogt Room (B-102) of the Eshleman Library (Building B)
    A drama centered on the love affair between two men on opposite sides of the Mid-East conflict: Palestinian student Nimer and Roy, an Israeli lawyer.
    Sponsored by the HFC Eshleman Library.

  • A Conversation with Mary Larkin: The Importance of Inclusion
    Weds., April 17, 3 p.m.- 5 p.m. in ASCC Building L; Berry Auditorium
    A presentation exploring the how exclusion in the classroom can impact often overlooked or misunderstood LGBTQ+ students and how to create a welcoming and inclusive classroom.

  • Film Screening: Political Animals (2012)
    Monday, April 22, 2:30 p.m. in the Vogt Room (B-102) of the Eshleman Library (Building B)
    Political Animals is a powerful, award winning documentary about four California lawmakers -- all women -- who took the fight for equality from the streets into the halls of government to create lasting social justice and equality.

  • Free and Confidential HIV/STI Testing
    Tuesday, April 23, 12 p.m. - 6 p.m., check-in Berry Auditorium
    SAFE@HFC is hosting confidential 1-on-1 HIV/STI testing for students, faculty and staff. The service is offered to all, free of charge by Michigan Unified. All are welcome.

  • Film Screening:The Way He Looks (2014)
    Monday, April 29, 2:30 p.m. in the Vogt Room (B-102) of the Eshleman Library (Building B)
    Leonardo is a blind teenager searching for independence. His everyday life, the relationship with his best friend, Giovana, and the way he sees the world change completely with the arrival of Gabriel.
