Byron Brooks, an HFC alumnus who made headlines earlier this year, founded a non-profit organization called From The Hood For The Hood, which is dedicated to developing, empowering, and engaging young people and communities worldwide. It also serves as a catalyst for social justice and fighting homelessness.

Currently, From The Hood For The Hood is sponsoring a clothing drive to clothe the homeless in Big Rapids and Grand Rapids. Brooks has set a goal of $100,000 that he wants to meet by Jan. 1, 2019.

Homelessness is a very personal for topic Brooks, who was homeless for a period of time when attending HFC. Eventually, HFC faculty and staff learned of his plight and assisted him in finding a home. He eventually became the president of the HFC Student Council and currently attends Ferris State University in Big Rapids.
