Henry Ford College WINGS Committee Wins 2016 MACRAO Equity in Education Award

The HFC Women’s Institute for National and Global Success (WINGS) Committee recently received news that it will receive the 2016 MACRAO Equity in Education Award at the 2016 Annual MACRAO Conference Nov. 16-18. This conference takes place at the Bavarian Inn in Frankenmuth.

During the conference, members of the WINGS Committee will give a presentation about their organization. The mission of the MACRAO Equity in Education Committee is to promote equitable opportunities within higher education for marginalized populations. The WINGS Committee supports this mission, which qualifies them to receive this prestigious award.

Founded by Dr. Lisa Copprue, HFC vice president of Student Affairs, WINGS is a mentoring program that provides personal and professional development to HFC’s female students who are interested in the science, technology, engineering and math, as well as business (STEM+B) fields. It also helps participating students build a network of peers who aspire to become professional women.

Each student is matched with a mentor currently working in the field of the student’s academic program. For instance, if a student is enrolled in the Pharmacy Program, then her mentor will be a fully-credentialed pharmacist. The program begins with an orientation for both students and their mentors. It ends with a closing ceremony to celebrate the student completion of the program.

The WINGS Committee includes:

  • Dr. Brenda Hildreth, WINGS Committee co-chair and HFC director of Student Outreach & Support;
  • Teresa Jensen, WINGS Committee co-chair;
  • Elaine Saneseke, HFC Business instructor
  • Cassandra Fluker, HFC Student Activities officer;
  • Nahla Haidar, HFC Math instructor;
  • Kimberly Moscardelli, HFC Computer Information Systems (CIS) instructor and co-academic coordinator; and
  • Marina Terterian, HFC Math instructor.

“WINGS helps women reach new heights in their chosen career paths. On the behalf of my colleagues involved with WINGS, I am honored that WINGS has been chosen to win this award,” said Hildreth.
