Former HFCC student wins $1,500 National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) Scholarship

Andres Saavedra
Student Andres Saavedra, who attended HFCC's Interior Design program in 2012, recently received a $1,500 scholarship for placing second in the kitchen design category, which was part of the national student design competition sponsored by the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA). He earned this recognition as a student at HFCC. HFCC is one of only two schools in the State of Michigan offering an NKBA supported or accredited kitchen and bath design program. In April, NKBA will provide Saavedra, of Lincoln Park, complimentary air travel and two-night hotel accommodations in New Orleans. He will receive his award and scholarship at an awards dinner honoring student winners at the NKBA’s annual Kitchen/Bath Industry Show (KBIS) conference. The NKBA will also feature his design in the organization’s quarterly magazine. Currently, Saavedra is attending the College of Creative Studies (CCS) in Detroit, where he is pursuing his undergraduate degree in Interior Design. His anticipated graduation is 2015. “It was clear to me early on that Andres had a talent for interior design. But talent alone is not enough to succeed in this industry. As evidenced by this exceptional achievement in placing second in a national student kitchen design competition, Andres is one of those unique individuals who has it all: talent, a strong work ethic and self-discipline,” said Karen Wilmering, program coordinator/instructor of HFCC’s interior design program.
