HFCC's Spring Jazz Concert set for May 6
HFCC's annual Spring Jazz Concert, conducted by Rick Goward, will take place Friday, May 6, at 8 p.m. at HFCC’s Adray Auditorium in the McKenzie Fine Arts Center in Dearborn.
This annual concert features the HFCC Big Band, Blue Fusion and Midnight Blue groups, all of which have achieved national and international acclaim for their stirring and resounding performances.
Directed by Rick Goward, The Henry Ford Big Band has performed at major jazz festivals throughout the world. The group, founded in 1981, has appeared annually at the Detroit Labor Day jazz festival, twice at Carnegie Hall, and seven times at the prestigious Montreaux International Jazz Festival in Switzerland. They have performed at Presidential Inaugural Celebrations and have also toured Hawaii and St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. In addition, the Big Band performs numerous dance engagements throughout the year.
Blue Fusion is an entertaining vocal jazz group consisting of approximately 12 vocalists plus rhythm section, and performs in a variety of styles. Blue Fusion has performed in Chicago along with Studio 110.
Midnight Blue is an accomplished vocal jazz group, consisting of approximately 10 vocalists and rhythm section. Midnight Blue also performs the most challenging vocal jazz arrangements. The group has performed at the Presidential Inauguration Celebration.
The members of Studio 110 represent an eclectic mix of musicians, from recent high school graduates to retirees. The group performs a wide selection of jazz favorites at many Detroit-area events. Studio 110 has performed in Chicago along with Blue Fusion.
