HFC Statement on Student Vaccinations
Although Henry Ford College does not have universal student vaccination policy required of all students, the National Centers for Disease control recommends that all adults comply with the vaccination schedule.
Health Careers or Nursing Students: All students enrolled in any Health Careers or Nursing program must comply with the following vaccination policy. Failure to do so will prevent students from being placed in a clinical setting and thus being ineligible for graduation. Copies of this policy may be obtained from the Health Careers and Nursing division offices.
General vaccination requirements for health careers and nursing students
Health Careers and Nursing Students are required to complete and provide appropriate documentation for each of the following:
- Test for immunity (laboratory titers) to Rubella, Rubeola, and Mumps prior to beginning clinical rotations. If the student is found to be non-immune or questionable to any of these three viruses, the MMR vaccine is required.
- Test for immunity (laboratory titer) to Varicella (chickenpox) prior to beginning clinical rotations. If the student is found to be non-immune or questionable, the Varicella Vaccine is required.
- Test for immunity (laboratory titer) to Hepatitis B. If the student is found to be non-immune or questionable, the student must choose to
- receive the series of 3 Hepatitis B vaccinations,
- receive a booster vaccination, or
- refuse the vaccination.
- Receive the Flu Vaccine each fall semester prior to attending clinical rotations by a specified date. If the vaccination is contraindicated (i.e allergic reaction) for the student, the student is required to provide confirming documentation from their primary care provider.
- Evidence of receipt of the Tdap (Tetanus-Diphtheria-Pertussis) vaccination is required prior to beginning clinical rotations.
- TB (PPD test) screening required on a yearly basis. For those not able to complete the TB skin test, a negative chest X-ray is required.
