What is Orientation?

Orientation will help you understand what to expect at Henry Ford College, what will be expected of you as a student, what resources and support we offer for you, and what life is like as a student here.

If you applied to Henry Ford College and are admitted (or conditionally admitted), you should sign up for online orientation (see section below).

After you complete the self-paced online orientation, you can sign up for your on-campus advising and registration session that includes advising, class registration, obtaining your ID, and more (see below). (It might take half an hour after you complete the online session to obtain registration permission for the on-campus portion. Please be patient.)

Online Orientation

New Student Orientation kicks off with an online module to introduce you to HFC's culture, resources, and student expectations. This module covers essential topics like academic policies, campus safety, and student resources. Through videos, quizzes, and multimedia content, you'll gain vital knowledge about technology, enrollment, and campus life. The self-paced format lets you learn at your convenience.

Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration (SOAR) Session

After completing the online module, join us for your in-person SOAR session. Choose a date between May and early August, with sessions starting at 9:00am, 1:30pm, or 6:00pm. During this on-campus advising and registration session, you'll meet with Academic Advisors, discuss any payment questions, and register for your first semester of courses. By the end, you'll be smiling with your HFC photo ID!

Welcome Day

Held the week before the Fall semester begins, Welcome Day offers a glimpse into the student experience at HFC, with opportunities to meet faculty in your academic program, explore campus, and connect with fellow students. A dedicated session is available for parents and family, offering insights into how you can support your student's academic journey.

Register for Welcome Day

Students in a non-degree seeking program, including guest students, do not need to complete orientation before you register for classes.

To request a sign language interpreter for an in-person orientation session, please be sure to contact orientation@hfcc.edu at least two weeks before the date of the session you registered for.
